Moroccan Travel Trips – Frequently Asked Questions

🧭 Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about traveling to Morocco and booking your perfect tour with Moroccan Travel Trips

General Travel Information

Do I need travel insurance for Morocco?

+

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for anyone visiting Morocco, whether for Marrakech tours or trips to other cities. Good medical and travel insurance can help cover costs in case of accidents, illness, trip interruptions, or lost luggage.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you must disclose them when purchasing your insurance policy. Morocco has both public and private hospitals, but treatment costs in private clinics can be high, so insurance is very helpful.

Is Morocco a safe country?

+

Morocco is generally considered a safe destination for travelers. Violent crime against tourists is rare. As in any country, you should take normal precautions, especially in busy areas where petty crime such as scams and pickpocketing can occur.

Keep an eye on your belongings, avoid displaying valuables, and use licensed guides and official transportation services. Overall, Morocco is a welcoming and secure country for visitors.

How should a female traveler dress in Morocco?

+

Morocco is a Muslim-majority country with conservative cultural norms, especially outside the main tourist centers. Female travelers are not expected to dress like locals, but modest clothing is recommended to show respect and avoid unwanted attention.

In general, it is best to wear loose-fitting clothes that cover your shoulders, cleavage, and at least to the knees (for example, long skirts, dresses, or trousers, with t-shirts or light blouses). Beachwear is acceptable at pools and beaches, but not in city streets or medinas.

Do I need a visa to visit Morocco?

+

Many nationalities can enter Morocco without a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. However, all visitors must travel with a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality, and the list of visa-exempt countries can change. For the most up-to-date information, you should check with the Moroccan embassy or consulate in your country or consult the official Moroccan government website before traveling.

If you are not from a visa-exempt country, you must obtain a visa in advance from a Moroccan diplomatic mission. Always verify current rules before you book your flights.

Can I drink tap water in Morocco?

+

Tap water in Morocco is generally safe for locals, but visitors often prefer to drink bottled or filtered water to avoid any stomach discomfort while their body adapts. Bottled water is widely available and inexpensive.

During our Marrakech tours and Morocco trips, we can help you purchase bottled water and advise you on safe food and drink options.

What is the Moroccan currency? Can I use US Dollars or Euros?

+

The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). For everyday purchases in shops, cafés, markets, and smaller establishments, you will need to pay in Dirhams. ATMs are widely available in major cities and tourist areas, and most accept international debit and credit cards.

In some hotels, riads, and tourist-focused shops, Euros, US Dollars, or British Pounds may be accepted, but usually at less favorable exchange rates. The most convenient and economical solution is to withdraw Dirhams from ATMs or exchange currency at official bureaux de change, banks, or authorized counters.

Is vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free food available in Morocco?

+

Yes. Although Moroccan cuisine traditionally uses a lot of meat, it also offers many delicious vegetarian and vegan options such as vegetable tagines, lentil and bean dishes, salads, and couscous with vegetables.

In major cities like Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir, and coastal towns like Essaouira, you will find vegetarian- and vegan-friendly restaurants as well as “bio” and health-focused cafés. Gluten-free options are becoming more common, especially in larger cities and tourist areas. If you have specific dietary requirements or allergies, inform your guide and your accommodation in advance.

Is Wi-Fi widely available in Morocco?

+

Wi-Fi is widely available in Morocco, especially in hotels, riads, guesthouses, cafés, restaurants, and airports. Many establishments offer free Wi-Fi for customers, although the connection quality and speed may vary by location.

In some rural areas or on desert routes, the signal can be weak or intermittent. If you need a more reliable connection, you can purchase a local SIM card with data upon arrival for use during your trip.

Can I bring a drone to Morocco?

+

No. For security reasons, the import and use of drones in Morocco have been strictly restricted since 2015. Drones are generally prohibited, and if you arrive with a drone, it is very likely to be confiscated by customs at the airport.

If you need aerial footage, it is essential to check current regulations in advance and obtain the necessary official authorizations, which are rarely granted for tourists.

COVID-19 Information

What are the steps to be taken by travelers to come to Morocco?

+

COVID-19 entry requirements have changed several times and may be updated again in the future. Depending on current regulations, travelers may be required to present a valid vaccination certificate, a recent negative PCR test, or other health documents before boarding and upon arrival.

You may also be asked to fill out a health form with your contact details and address in Morocco. Because the rules can change, always check the latest official information from Moroccan authorities, airlines, or your local Moroccan consulate shortly before your trip.

What measures are implemented in case of positive COVID-19 cases?

+

Procedures for positive COVID-19 cases are determined by Moroccan health authorities and may differ based on the severity of symptoms and the current national protocol. In general, people with mild or asymptomatic cases may be required to self-isolate and follow medical advice, while complex or severe cases are treated in public or private hospitals.

Your airline, hotel, or guide can help you contact local medical services if needed. Make sure your travel insurance covers COVID-19-related medical expenses and any possible quarantine costs.

What are the entry requirements for children?

+

Entry requirements for children can differ from those for adults and can change over time. In some periods, children under a certain age have been exempt from testing or vaccination requirements.

Always verify the most recent regulations for children with your airline and official Moroccan sources before you travel.

What is the current COVID-19 health situation in Morocco?

+

The COVID-19 health situation and related measures (such as mask use, capacity limits, or event restrictions) can evolve. For the latest official information about the COVID-19 situation in Morocco, refer to the official government channels or the Moroccan Ministry of Health.

Your accommodation and guide can also inform you about any local measures in place during your stay.

What sanitary measures should be respected in Morocco?

+

Morocco has applied health measures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even as restrictions ease, basic hygiene and preventive measures remain good practice for your safety and the safety of others:

  • Wash or sanitize your hands regularly.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or into a single-use tissue.
  • Avoid close contact with people who appear unwell.
  • Follow any local mask regulations or recommendations.
  • Respect social distancing rules or capacity limits where they are still in effect.

Before traveling, check for any current local requirements (such as masks in public transport or health passes) so you can fully comply with Moroccan regulations during your stay.

Private Desert Tours

Do you offer an escorting licensed guide on your private tours?

+

Yes. Our private tours are led by licensed, professional guides who are authorized by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism and have extensive experience guiding travelers from around the world.

Your guide will accompany you throughout the tour, share insights into Moroccan history and culture, and assist you with practical matters such as check-ins, restaurant recommendations, and local customs.

Can we choose different accommodation than the one you are offering for your tours?

+

In most cases, yes. Our standard itineraries include carefully selected riads, hotels, and desert camps that we trust for quality and service. However, if you prefer to upgrade, choose specific properties, or adjust the comfort level (standard, comfort, luxury), we can customize the accommodation to your preferences and budget, subject to availability and possible price adjustments.

How early should we book our private Morocco tours?

+

To secure your preferred dates, accommodations, and room types—especially during high season (spring, autumn, Christmas, and New Year)—it is recommended to book your private tour at least 2 to 3 months in advance.

For peak periods or for larger groups, booking even earlier is advisable. Last-minute requests are sometimes possible, but options may be more limited.

We are a couple and would like to join a small group of 4 or 6 on a private tour. Is that possible?

+

Our specialty is private, tailor-made tours, which are usually organized exclusively for your own party (for example, just a couple, family, or group of friends).

If you are interested in joining an existing small group, let us know your travel dates, preferred itinerary, and budget, and we can inform you if there is a compatible group departure or help you create a shared tour if there are other travelers with similar plans.

We are ready to book our tour but we haven’t booked a hotel for the pickup. What should we do?

+

You can still reserve your tour even if you have not yet chosen your hotel or riad. When you book, simply provide your arrival city and approximate arrival time.

Once you have confirmed your accommodation, send us the name and address of your hotel or riad, and we will update your file and arrange the pickup accordingly. If needed, we can also recommend trusted accommodations that fit your budget and preferences.

Marrakech Tours to Sahara Desert Camp

What happens to our luggage before we ride camels to the desert camp?

+

Your main luggage will be safely stored at the desert lodge, hotel, or in the vehicle before you set off on your camel ride to the camp. You will usually take only a small day bag or backpack with the essentials you need for the night in the camp (such as toiletries, a change of clothes, camera, and warm layers).

The next morning, when you return from the camp, you will be reunited with your main luggage.

Do we need sleeping bags for the Sahara desert camp?

+

No. Our desert camps provide comfortable beds with clean sheets, blankets, and pillows, so sleeping bags are not necessary.

In the colder months (especially from November to March), nights in the desert can be quite chilly, so we recommend bringing warm clothes such as a fleece and socks to stay comfortable.

Do we need to bring our own towels and shower products for the desert camp?

+

Many of our standard and luxury desert camps provide towels and basic toiletries, but this can vary by camp and category. To be safe, we recommend bringing a personal travel towel and your own toiletries (shampoo, shower gel, toothbrush, etc.), especially if you are staying in a standard camp.

Your booking confirmation can specify what is included in your particular camp.

Can we upgrade our tents once we are in the desert camp?

+

Tent upgrades depend on availability at the camp. If there are free luxury or higher-category tents, it may be possible to upgrade on the spot for an additional charge.

However, to guarantee a specific tent category (standard, comfort, or luxury), it is best to request and confirm any upgrades at the time of booking so that we can reserve them in advance.

Is there electricity in the tents? Where can we charge our phones and cameras?

+

Most luxury and many standard desert camps provide electricity in the tents or in a designated common area, powered either by generators or solar energy. In some camps, you will find power outlets in your tent; in others, charging points are available in the restaurant or reception area.

Because electricity may be limited, it is wise to bring a power bank and make sure your devices are charged before heading into the desert.

Deposits and Payments

Can we book our tour directly with you when we arrive in Marrakech? Where is your office located?

+

Our tours are primarily arranged in advance via our website, email, and phone so that we can secure accommodations, transportation, and guides for your chosen dates. Last-minute bookings in Marrakech may be possible depending on availability, but we recommend reserving before arrival, especially during busy seasons.

When you contact us, we will provide you with all necessary contact details and meeting information for your tour. Please reach out through our online contact form or by email to organize your trip before you arrive.

How do I pay the remaining balance?

+

Typically, a deposit is paid at the time of booking to confirm your tour, with the remaining balance due either before arrival (by bank transfer or secure online payment) or in Morocco (often in cash or by other agreed methods).

The exact payment options and deadlines will be clearly stated in your booking confirmation. If you have any special requirements, please let us know so we can find the most convenient solution for you.

They are passionate about sharing Morocco’s culture, history, and daily life, and will be happy to answer your questions and help you make the most of your trip.

Can I customize a tour to fit my interests?

We can adjust the pace, level of comfort, and special interests (such as family-friendly travel or romantic getaways) according to your wishes.

How do I book a tour?

+

You can book directly through our website by selecting your preferred tour, travel dates, and number of participants, then following the booking instructions.

You can also contact us by email or phone if you need advice or wish to create a fully customized itinerary. Once the details are confirmed, we will send you a booking confirmation and deposit/payment instructions.

Which airports do you provide transfer services from?

+

We provide reliable private transfer services from all major airports in Morocco, including Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK), Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN), Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA), Fez–Saïs Airport (FEZ), and others upon request.

Transfers can be booked as a stand-alone service or combined with your tour package.

What information do you need when I book an airport transfer?

+

To arrange your airport transfer smoothly, we require the following details:

  • Your flight number and airline.
  • Arrival date and scheduled arrival time.
  • Name of the arrival airport.
  • Your destination address, hotel, or riad name.
  • The number of passengers (and approximate amount of luggage).

With this information, your driver can meet you at the airport at the right time and take you directly to your accommodation.
