About this tour
Two days, one night, and a round trip out of Marrakech to the Zagora desert. The vehicle is a private air-conditioned 4×4 or van, the driver-guide speaks English. Day 1 climbs to the Tizi n'Tichka pass over the High Atlas, breaks at UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou, where a local Berber guide takes over, and again at Ouarzazate, before the Draa Valley leads south to Zagora for a camel trek at sunset and a night at a desert camp with dinner, breakfast and drumming around the fire. Day 2 opens with a sunrise camel ride, climbs back up the Draa Valley as far as Ouarzazate, for the Taourirt Kasbah and, if you want it, the Atlas Film Studios, then recrosses the Tizi n'Tichka to Marrakech. Collection at your Marrakech hotel or riad, and the return there, are part of the price. Prices start at 105 EUR per person, and a luxury ensuite camp can be added as a paid upgrade.

You leave Marrakech at 07:30 and head southeast over the High Atlas by way of the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 m, pulling over at Berber villages where the view earns it. At Aït Ben Haddou a local Berber guide takes you through the UNESCO-listed kasbah, and then it is on to Ouarzazate for lunch. The road south skirts the Anti-Atlas and passes the Berber village of Agdez before dropping into the Draa Valley, which is Morocco's longest oasis, and from there it runs between date palms, fortified kasbahs and henna plantations. Zagora arrives late in the afternoon, and a camel carries you out to the Berber desert camp with the sun going down. Moroccan dinner, Tam-Tam drumming round the campfire, and the night at the camp. A comfortable camp is included in the price, and a luxury camp is available.

Zagora - Ouarzazate (Taourirt Kasbah) - Tizi n'Tichka - Marrakech (7h drive)
An early start puts you back on a camel for a sunrise ride across the desert, after which breakfast is served at the camp, Moroccan style. The drive north retraces the Draa Valley as far as Ouarzazate, where the Taourirt Kasbah is on the list and the Atlas Film Studios can be too, with lunch taken whenever it suits you. The last leg crosses the High Atlas at the Tizi n'Tichka pass once more and brings you into Marrakech in the late afternoon, typically between 17:00 and 18:00, with drop-off at your hotel or riad.

Frequently asked questions
Can the stops and the running order be changed?
Yes. The Atlas Film Studios can be added, your time at Aït Ben Haddou stretched, the camel ride shortened and more photo stops worked in, because nobody else is in the vehicle.
Does this work for families?
It does. Child seats are free on request, the camel ride can be cut short or swapped for a 4x4 transfer, and the pace is yours to set.
How do the comfortable and luxury camps differ?
The camp in the price gives you a tent to yourselves and bathrooms you share. The luxury camp, at 70 EUR more per person, is an ensuite tent of your own with a hot shower, quality linens and towels.
What are the departure and return times?
Departure is around 07:30, and Day 2 ends back in Marrakech late in the afternoon, usually between 17:00 and 18:00.
Are the dunes at Zagora big?
No. Zagora is flat rocky desert with small sand dunes rather than the tall dunes at Merzouga. If tall dunes are what you are after, look at our three-day Merzouga tour.
Is a visit to the Atlas Film Studios possible?
Yes, on Day 2 while you are in Ouarzazate. Your driver sorts out the stop.
