About this tour
The Atlantic port of Essaouira lies 190 km west of Marrakech, and this trip takes you there privately: an air-conditioned car of your own, an English-speaking driver of your own, picked up at the door of your hotel or riad.
Heading out, the road crosses the Haouz plains and runs through argan country, where you break at a cooperative of women producing argan oil, and there is a wine tasting at the Val d’Argan vineyard if you want it. On arrival an English-speaking local guide takes you round on foot, through the UNESCO-listed Medina, into the Mellah, up to the Kasbah, along the Skala de la Ville ramparts and down to the fishing port. He will also point you at a good place for seafood.
The hours after that belong to you: the beach, the artisan souks, Gnawa music at Place Moulay Hassan. Most people give the town four to six hours before the drive home, which runs about 2.5 hours, and nothing here is on a timetable, so you choose when to leave and how long to stay while your driver waits.

1. Marrakech → Argan Forests
Leaving Marrakech — approximately 2.5 hours to the coast
Your driver comes to the door of your Marrakech hotel or riad, and nobody else is collected on the way. The road runs west over the Haouz plains and into the argan tree forests. If you want a coffee in a village, say so and it happens.

2. The Argan Cooperative
You stop at a women's argan cooperative to watch the hand-extraction being done the traditional way, hear what Morocco's "liquid gold" is used for in the kitchen and on the skin, and buy directly from the women who made it.
Nobody is hurrying you along. Where a group tour would give you 15 minutes, you can take 45.

3. Optional Stop — Val d'Argan Vineyard
Your local English-speaking guide meets you at the entrance to the medina.
The walk covers the winding alleys of the UNESCO Medina, its artisan workshops and Thuya woodcraft stores, then the Mellah, the historic Jewish quarter, and the Kasbah, a military bastion looking out over the Atlantic towards the Ile de Mogador.

5. Skala Ramparts & Fishing Port
The Skala de la Ville comes next, sea-facing ramparts of the 18th century with bronze cannons set along them.
Your guide talks you through how the fortifications worked and what the Portuguese era left behind.
Then down to the fishing port: blue boats, nets being mended, gulls overhead, the catch coming in.

Why pay for the private trip when the shared one costs EUR 19?
Because with the private trip the vehicle is yours, the clock is yours, and the guide is already in the price. Someone local walks you round the Medina, the driver pulls in wherever the road is worth stopping for, and Val d'Argan is open to you. The shared trip offers none of that: a fixed schedule, no guide, and a passenger count that can reach 17.
Can I pick my own departure time?
Yes. Between 08:00 and 09:00 is when most people go, though setting off earlier or later is no trouble. The car is yours, so the clock is too.
Does the price include the local guide?
